Role : motion design

On 19 November 2005, US Marines killed 24 civilians in Haditha, Iraq, many of them women and children. The incident led to the longest war crimes investigation in US military history. Four marines were charged for the killings that day, and only one – Frank Wuterich – stood trial. None served a day in prison.

hrough interviews with the forensic investigator and lawyers who worked on the case, #BBCEye Investigations reveals previously unseen evidence – implicating two marines who were never prosecuted for the deaths of women and children in Haditha.

Featuring undisclosed legal documents, court testimonies, and exclusive interviews with US marines, this three year investigation shows the flawed prosecution of the case, which resulted in what lawyers for one of the marines say is a “miscarriage of justice”. Twenty years after the killings, two survivors Safa and Khalid, search for closure – asking what really happened, who was responsible for their families’ deaths, and why the marines who pulled the triggers walked free.

Told through the perspectives of both victims and marines, the film interrogates the complexity of memory, justice, and trauma. By weaving together fragmented stories, it uncovers serious concerns about the system that led to no one being held responsible for the killings. It is a searing investigation into a complex case on its 20 year anniversary and poses questions that continue to resonate for the US military and its legacy in Iraq.
